After the October 2006 concert during which the students and graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw delivered, under the direction of Jerzy Semkow, a truly professional performance of the Symphony No. VII by Anton Bruckner, the Maestro asked the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to extend a patronage over the most talented musicians by creating an institution that would allow them to develop and make a professional debut.

Every year, hundreds of young instrumentalists graduate from music academies in Poland. There are just a few posts waiting for them in professional orchestras, so more and more frequently they abandon their profession. Some of them emigrate and often take up jobs that are in no way related to their education.
With these people in mind, Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, signed on 28 September 2007 the disposition by which the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus was established. It is meant to gather the best graduates of music academies in Poland.

‘Sinfonia Iuventus, being a youth orchestra, will at the same time be a professional one. The young and talented should find it a great place for perfecting their skills, as well as a springboard for showing themselves in Poland and abroad. This new institution is of key importance for the development of culture in Poland. We would like this orchestra to fight for an international position, as far as the musical potential is concerned,’ says Tomasz Merta, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
